Today was a beautiful day. Some of my plans had changed from the original and it worked out they way it needed to. I was home mid morning, and knowing that the weather was due to change, I let the bunnies out earlier, cleaned their pans and swept up the barn a bit. While bending down, I noticed that Sasha had a lump under her chin. After a bit of maneuvering, I managed to pick her up. This behavior in itself is unusual – the running off, and hiding in her box and resisting being picked up. Well, if I had an abscess on my dewlap, I would run off, too! Swollen, firm but pliable. The rabbit conditions’ book that we have opened right off to “abscess.” And, that is exactly what it was.
After consulting with Lisa H and Nancy S and Bruce B and considering options and consequences by calling our vet – oot, Terry at Kirkwood Vet Tech program who referred me on, I called the Cedar Rapids Animal Hospital on Memorial Drive. Fortunately, the veterinarian was in and they had an opening. He was scheduled to be off Thursday. Sasha would not have made it until Friday, I am sure. Well, Dr. Weber and Tiffany did a great job of examining Sasha, lancing the abscess, cleaning it out, showing me how to give antibiotics, explaining care at home. And, treated Sasha and me very well.
I did Reiki on Sasha in between and she calmed down a lot. In the pet carrier on the way home she was more relaxed – of course she didn’t hurt so much anymore! When we arrived home, she was casually stretched out, ears up and seemed calm. Simon was happy to see her and licked her. She ate and drank well. Hopped around. So, let us hope this is all done. I will continue to send Reiki to her for her healing.
All this to say, I walked the Labyrinth just now in gratitude for a lot of things. And, the Universe was with us all, it seems. So, sometimes, cancellations lead to the positive.
