Heart of the Black Hills rests in the Heart of the Laughing Labyrinth
Sometimes when we follow “Guidance”, especially against our immediate inclination, we are indeed, as author C.S. Lewis discovered, Surprised by Joy.
“I’ve done enough. It’s time to rest. That’s why I am staying home today,” dictated logic, as I turned to clip weeds around the base of the Magnolia tree. What am I doing? Hmm, the deer certainly have enjoyed my being gone as the tops of the Sweet William revealed.
What’s this? A shiny rose quartz sort of “heart shaped.” Looks new. Kathy Davis. “Well, duh, Mrs. Patterson.” The hints she left fell into place. The nice note I opened a few days after returning from the Odyssey trip to Texas and back with cryptic, “Here’s a little info on the addition to the Laughing Labyrinth.” The reply to my TY email “Take a look in the heart of the Labyrinth….” which I promptly forgot to do. (I really can tell when I am off center and not feeling well. I just blow stuff off.)
So, “Surprised by Joy” ‘in deed’ and indeed! This simple gift opened the door to refreshment, reminiscence, gratitude, and sending positive energy for our son, Dan’s trip to The Hills as he and friends memorialize Dave Diamond.
Love his website title and tag line: “Dave Diamond: The Diamond Mine Radio Broadcaster, Writer, Academic: The Diamond was a Boss Jock & rocknroll DJ at some Americas biggest radio stations.” And he was. The stories I heard in the few times we met him at Black Hills State U. were funny and intriguing.
That pilgrims choose to leave mementos in the Laughing Labyrinth is such an honor. To work the Labyrinth and reflect on friends and family who have helped create it with their contributions of flowers, rocks, driftwood and footsteps on the path comforts and inspires me. Thank you, all.
